History of the South by Southwest Festival

Back in July 1986 one of the famous music concerts of New York was planning to expand their show in Austin. But the plan did not work out and, hence, this fest did not happen then. Later on, Roland Swenson takes a step forward to conduct a music fest at a local level. With the help of two other member Louis Black and Nick Barbaro, he went on organizing the fest. The opening event commences in 1987 where Louis Meyers performed. All in all, this was tremendous opening with the crowd accounting for more than four times of what expected.

The fest expanded year by year in crowd and revenue. Many new and famous artists always remain associated with it. However, John Meyer who was the first artists performing at this fest left it in the 90s. There were many developments which took place in the later parts of the 90s. For instance, the launching of film and multimedia conference was in 1994. Moreover, both of them owns a separate conference in SXSW the next year.
