World
Smile Day on October 1 was created by Harvey Ball who was a commercial artist. It’s
a relatively new holiday with a great history which came in response to his
creation of the smiley face. Harvey was concerned that marketing the symbol
would reduce its impact. We can hardly blame him for his appreciation. The
symbol has been used in many different ways including clothing, comics, coffee
mugs, pins, and more. These yellow faces are more than just a symbol, they are
an expression of the power of smiling.
History Of World Smile Day
In
1963, Harvey Ball, a graphic artist, and publisher from Worcester,
Massachusetts created the smiley face symbol we all know. The popularity of
this symbol exploded in the world of popular culture. Every artist dream of
having their work respected and recreated, and few icons have had the legacy of
Harvey's creativity.
In
1999, World Smile Day became a public holiday to take back control. Aspects of
the day's celebration were simple but effective. People had to use the day to
smile and do small, cute acts all over the world. Harvey wanted to keep the
smile attached to the human being. By doing this, you will smile, and in
return, you will make someone else smile and brighten their day.
Importance of World Smile Day
1. One
Day to Show That We Care
While
we use smile emojis in our digital conversations, we don't always smile with
our real faces. It is always good to remember the benefits that genuine smiles
can bring to our emotional well-being.
2. Illuminate
the Darkness
When
the world seems chaotic, it can be hard to find your own smile. Enjoying
yourself can seem silly at times, but science tells us that finding clarity in
the dark can make you feel less anxious, upset, and sad. Lets celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti .
3. Do
More Difficult Tasks
People
often neglect how mental health affects our productivity. When you're in the
right void, it can give you the boost you need to get on with your day. It can
also help positively lift the energy of those around you.
How to Celebrate World Smile Day
1. Do
For Others
There
are many organizations that can use volunteers who want to provide additional
assistance. Whether it's cleaning up the environment, helping the elderly, or
giving back to veterans, it all makes the world a better place. Doing something
charitable outside of your daily life can have beneficial effects for you and
your community.
2. Follow
Your Dreams
With
work and other commitments, it can be hard to find time for yourself. We all
have hopes and dreams that we put behind us. Use this day to enjoy your heart's
desire. Take your guitar out of the closet, grab a brush, anything that
resonates deeply with you and brings a smile back to your face.
3. Do
a Random Act of Kindness
Not
everything has to be planned. Keeping goodwill in your spirit throughout the
day is the perfect way to celebrate. You will keep in mind to be on the lookout
for the ways you can spend someone's day. Praise someone's clothing, and thank
your co-workers for their work ethic. Whatever small way you can positively
influence someone, follow your instincts. You will be amazed at how much
recognition it can mean to someone.
